Narrow alleys and open minds
There is no designated gay neighborhood in Stockholm – but you sure see rainbow flags flying all over the city. The annual pride parade is a week of glittery parties and important meetings and discussions. The rest of the year has a great number of watering holes for anyone who loves glitz and glamor, or maybe just a cup of hot chocolate in a medieval cellar.
STOCKHOLM PRIDE FESTIVAL
Every summer the Pride Parade passes through Stockholm’s streets, and for many, this is the highlight of the annual Pride Festival. The Pride Park is housed by Östermalms Athletic Grounds but the entire city is colored by rainbow flags and celebrations.
One of Stockholm’s oldest gay establishments, Gay Bar & Restaurant Torget, opened in 2000 in Gamla Stan next to the subway station. Drop by for some good old-fashioned homemade food or order a drink from one of the talented bartenders. Fridays and Saturdays have DJs mixing old and new music.
The Mälarpaviljongen’s floating outdoor service is located on Norr Mälarstrand and is open during the summer. Mälarpaviljongen was ranked one of the world’s best restaurants in 2013 in the category “Best Neighborhood Restaurants in the World”. The Mälarpaviljong’s Rainbow Fund collects and donates money to LGBTQ organizations around the world.

Urban Deli is one of culinary Stockholm’s youngest institutions. Since its start in 2009 near Nytorget in Stockholm, two more shops have opened – in Sickla and on Sveavägen. Urban Deli is a grocery store, a food hall, a bakery, and a restaurant. All with a focus on quality, sustainability, and food artisanship. In 2015, Urban Deli was named Restaurant/Bar of the Year by the QX-gala.
