Hostels in Stockholm
For budget travelers, hostels are a natural alternative. In Stockholm, there are about 70 hostels both downtown as well as in the suburbs and surrounding municipalities. Gamla Stan can be said to be the neighborhood in Stockholm that is most densely populated by hostels.
Nearly 20 years old and City Backpackers continues to win awards from booking and independent travel sites. Generous common areas and a nice breakfast café are available on the premises. City Backpackers arrange excursions, bike rentals, and has a large sauna that is available for the use of guests.
The 2kronor hostel is located at Surbrunnsgatan 44 in Vasastan. You won’t find a better location in central Stockholm – but the hostel is still situated away from trafic noise and stress. The closest subway station is Rådmansgatan and from there, there are only two stations to the Central Station (T-Centralen) and three to Gamla Stan.
CASTANEA OLD TOWN HOSTEL
Hostel Castanea is named for the big chestnut tree growing outside. Two neighboring houses dating from the 1600s offer contemporary, renovated rooms. Please note that the rooms are quite small – but many do have very high ceilings Castanea is located right in the center of the Gamla Stan’s maze of galleries, cafés, pubs, restaurants, and stores. It’s the perfect point of departure for exploring Stockholm.
AF CHAMPAN HOSTEL
Surely Stockholm’s most beautiful hostel: located on the full-rigged ship Af Chapman, this hostel is permanently anchored off Skeppsholmen in Stockholm. With its 77 rooms and 100 beds, the ship is quickly booked full during peak season. So, book early to get the chance to be lulled to sleep.
Långholmen is Stockholm’s most captivating island, literally. Up until 1975, it was Sweden’s largest penitentiary with 500 cells. Part of the prison has now been turned into a hostel with cells for solitary travelers as well as family cells. And guests get their own keys these days… Långholmen has nice walking paths and a beach under Västerbron. The subway station Hornstull is located a few minutes’ walk away.
Mosebacke Hostel is a contemporary hostel that offers its guests the feeling and ambience of a hotel at the prices of a hostel. The hostel is located near Mosebacke torg and Södra Teatern and Mosebacketerrassen, which has one of Stockholm’s nicest outdoor cafés and Slussen’s subway station only a few minutes’ walk away.
Stockholm Hostel is located at Kungsholmen within walking distance to Fridhemsplans subway station. Its rooms are modern and renovated in bright colors and each room has its own television and bathroom with toilet and shower.
